This past weekend we stayed at a campground in Gap, Pennsylvania called The Loose Caboose Campground. The site we were in was reasonable well maintained, but they had a jerry-rigged water set up that I hope they get fixed before winter.
Water Woes
We got to the campground, got Lola leveled and power connected, turned on the hot water heater (I needed a shower after getting set up) and went to hook up the water, Remember the jerry-rigged water situation I mentioned earlier? Well, that put the water hook up about 30 feet from our water input point on the trailer. Our hose is only 20 feet long.
The above picture shows the original water spigot and Lola’s water inlet. They are about seven feet apart. Way in the back is a “Y” where a hose comes down the hill from the campsite above and continues down the hill to the campsite below. The solid green hose is the water our site.
The problem is, we didn’t have that hose. What we did have was around 10 gallons of water in the reserve tank. So I turned on the water pump and got in the shower. About 30 seconds into the shower the water stopped. I’m glad I hadn’t gotten to the part with the soap, but I really wanted that shower.
The Wedding
We relaxed for a bit and then got ready to go to the wedding. I had twisted my ankle that morning and putting on dress shoes was painful. I wear mid-height hiking boot every day. I haven’t worn dress shoes in years. That and Sue’s shoes, which fit at home were too large when she put them on.
We got to the ceremony about 20 minutes before it started and got seats in the back with some of our friends. The ceremony took only about 15 minutes and then I had to run to Walmart.
At Walmart I found moleskin for Sue’s Feet and an Ace bandage for my ankle. The entire yard and garden area was given over to Christmas decorations… In early October. Fortunately there was a Home Depot right next door. I went in and found a hose and headed back to the venue.
Sue danced her heart out and we had a great time.
Back at the Trailer
We got back to the trailer and I quickly hooked up the water hose so I could get a shower. The shower still did not work. The kitchen and bathroom sinks were both fine, but no shower.
The next morning I fiddled with it some more, still no luck.
Brunch!
We went to Bespoke Brewing in Strasburg, PA for brunch. The food was really good and the portions were decent.
The brewery was literally next door to the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania in Strasburg. I took this picture from the brewery’s front porch.
On to a Distillery
We went over to Lancaster Distilleries at the Zoetropolis I had a wonderful Manhattan and Sue had a Gimlet. The place was amazing, but I didn’t get many pictures.
Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania
We were headed back to the trailer and decided to stop at the Strasburg Railroad and walk around there and across the street at the museum.
As we were leaving we saw a trailer with giant pumpkins on it. There was a sign with a price on it… $10.00!
One gallon water jug for scale.
Dinner
We did salmon and potatoes on the griddle outside for dinner. Very tasty.
Johnny Cash Tribute Band
We went to The American Music Theatre in Lancaster, PA to see a Johnny Cash Tribute Band with Shawn Barker as Johnny Cash. There were a lot of songs that I recognized and a lot that I did not. It was quite a fun night. It was too dark to get good pictures, but I tried!
Water Woes Continued…
That night when we got back to the trailer I hooked up the extra water hose and still no water pressure in the shower. There was plenty of pressure in the kitchen and bathroom sinks, now I have to fix the shower faucet. So, I might as well upgrade it.
